Music And Me

 Music And Me!

Hey yall! My name is Bella, and I am really looking forward to this class. I am currently a senior studying Sports Management and Marketing. I am also #15 on the Converse Field Hockey team. I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. I love to spend time outdoors hiking and skiing. Growing up I played the piano and the guitar. Sadly I never continued to play past elementary school. I have always had a love for music, especially live music. Attending concerts with my friends and family are some of my fondest memories. My dream would be to attend a country music festival so that I could see all of my favourite artist in one place!

My Go-To Songs:

1.     I have lots of current go-to songs and genres of music currently; however, country music is my favourite. I have always been a die heart country fan. I think this is due to my parents since I have grown up constantly listening to this genre. My favourite song currently is “Better Together” by Luke Combs. I love the meaning behind the song and the message. I first heard it during the pandemic, but I continue to listen to it regularly. During the summer I saw Luke Combs perform live at an outdoor stadium in Seattle. It was such a fun and cool experience. Everyone was dancing and singing alone. In true Seattle fashion it downpour rain during the entire concert which kinda added to the concert!

My other favourite song right now is “Just a Little While” by The 502’s. I often feel like a song will define a moment or period of time in my life.  For me this song reminds me of summer.  It transports me back to summer days spent at the lake or beach with friends.

A Meaningful Song:

2.     A song that is personally meaningful to me is “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack. My mom listened to this song while she was pregnant with me and deemed it “my song.” She played it for me while I was growing up and reminded me of it any time, I was facing adversity. I personally love the meaning and message of the song. This song will forever remind of my mom. If I ever catch myself second guessing my self or what to do this song always help clear my mind!

A Not So Favourite Song:

3.     A type of music that I struggle to connect with or understand is techno music. I find that the tone is harsh and hard for me to connect with. I appreciate music that has a story behind it. I think techno music could be enjoyable in particular situations but personally I would not choose to play it. Perhaps I have yet to find the right artist that I can connect with when listening to techno music. The video is an example of a Dutch DJ called Charlotte de Witte. My roommate is Dutch and really enjoys listening to her music so I often hear it.

  2. I also grew up playing guitar, regarding your favorite genre of music i personally can not relate to that. I don't really like country music, I am more interested in rock. You say that you can't connect with techno music which it isn't for everyone but in the right setting i feel like i could connect with it.

  3. I saw Luke Combs live at a sold out show in Atlanta this summer alongside Cody Johnson and some others, and when he performed Better Together it was amazing. He also performed a cover of Ed Sheeran's song Dive, which if you haven't heard Luke's version I highly recommend.

  4. I also would love to go to a music festival. I have never been to a concert, but it is currently one of my biggest dreams.
I also played piano when I was younger but stopped once I got to middle school.

  5. Hi Bella! I agree with you on techno music. I've listened to a few techno songs when they pop up, but I just don't like them.

  7. Hi Bella
I enjoyed reading your blog! There was a time in my life when I learned to play the guitar too, but as the years went by I also stopped playing it. I also like to go to concerts and it is one of my favorite things to do. Last December, I was with my friends at a Reggaeton festival in Miami and we had a really good time. Even though I don’t really listen to music in English, I know who Luke Combs is and I like his music. I really like to listen to his song “Beautiful Crazy” and reading your blog made me want to listen to some of his other songs.
